2017 Municipal Leadership Institute and ExpoCMO-Logo-Column

The League will host a two-day training event and expo in Hoover December 4 and 5.  The Municipal Leadership Institute will provide you with the training you need to solve and plan for problems that impact you and your municipality before they arise. Presentations by area experts will be given on timely issues that confront today’s local elected officials. Exhibits will open at noon on Monday, December 4. This unique showcase will offer an excellent opportunity for vendors and municipal officials to meet. Plan to connect with exhibitors and discover valuable tools for solutions to problems as well as innovative ideas for future planning.

Topics Include: Sources of Revenue (elective core); Overview of Workers Compensation and Municipal Liability Claims; Developing a Municipal Youth Commission; Municipal Debt Financing; Pitfalls and Best Practices for Bond Issues; NIMS Training and Emergency Preparedness; and Expenditure of Municipal Funds (elective core).

This Institute has been approved for eight and one-half (8.5) Basic, Advanced or Emeritus hours in the Certified Municipal Official Program. 2 of the 8.5 approved hours meet core curriculum requirements. If you have already taken the core courses that will be offered at the Institute, duplicate core hours will not be awarded. Any municipal official or municipal personnel may register for the Institute, but only elected officials will be awarded credit hours in the CMO Program.

The League’s CMO graduation ceremony for those who have earned their Basic, Advanced, and Emeritus CMO designations will also be held during the Leadership Institute. For those attending both the Institute and the CMO graduation, registration and payment are required.

Table-top Exhibit - The Institute offers exhibiting on Monday, December 4th beginning at 12:00 p.m. and concludes with the League’s reception at 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.  Break service, lunch and reception will be held in the exhibit area to maximize your exposure to attendees.  Sponsorship - Your Company is promoted with special event signage, recognition via League app and on printed conference materials and the opportunity to provide a pre-approved promotional item in registration bags. (Flyers/brochures are accepted in digital format only. Deadline for submission - November 17).

NOTE:  ALM requires a certificate of general liability file on file for each exhibitor.  This can be a “proof only” copy and does not require ALM listed as an additional insured.  This should be uploaded during the registration process.

CMO DVD Courses

The League has made several of its most popular CMO training courses available on DVD. These courses are a valuable resource for municipalities to provide training for municipal personnel who did not attend the live training. Mayors and councilmembers who did not attend the live training can order select DVDs and earn credit hours in the CMO Program. Note: Read description to see if the DVD selected offers credit hours. Successful completion of a test on material presented is required to earn credit hours.
